There is a newer update to this. More details…
Restricted opening – drop-ins
Hive is currently open, but there are restrictions on how we are operating.
Although our studios and workshops are open, we have a limited number of spaces available and they must be booked in advance. You can do this on our courses page. Sessions will be released weekly, and we ask that you limit yourself to one session per week.
Session times will be 10am-12noon and 1-3pm, and you must allow yourself time within your session to clear up as we will be closed in between sessions to clean down work surfaces.
If you require physical support to work at Hive you can bring one friend or support worker with you by arrangement. Please contact us to arrange.
We are planning to run some of our courses postponed from April/May this term – if you booked, you should have been contacted already. We are also planning some new short courses. Attendance will be limited, and it may be necessary to cancel or alter courses at short notice depending on current government guidance.
We are also exploring and investing in new ways of delivering courses. This may include delivering courses in multiple locations, online courses, half and half courses (where studio time alternates week-by-week with online sessions) or live streamed courses. We are grateful to the Arts Council who have funded a full virtual classroom to support this.
Existing membership has been carried over to September, but if you would like to make a donation to support our ongoing costs then you can do so using the button at the top of the page.
About your visit
Hand sanitiser will be provided in the porch above the signing in book. Please use this before entering the building and ensure that you regularly wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. Disposable gloves will also be provided.
Masks must be worn at all times. We recommend bringing your own, although we do have a limited supply of disposable masks available. You can also order a set of re-usable masks.
We also ask that you maintain two metre distance from each other and Hive staff at all times.
The café area is currently closed, so please bring your own refreshments if you require them as there will be no access to drinks, boiler or microwave. Breaks must be taken outside.
The accessible toilet is available, and there is now a bolt on the door of the hand wash area to avoid bumping into people in this confined space. Please wipe down the toilet seat after use with the anti-bacterial wipes provided.
If you are using the pottery area, when you are finished please place any equipment used in the boxes provided, where they will be quarantined before being reused. If you need to use the pottery wheel, please let us know in advance. To limit physical contact, the weigh and pay tin is now in the pottery room and we ask that you do your own weighing and paying where possible (please ask if you need assistance).
We aim to minimise cash usage, so if you normally donate or pay for materials by cash, please consider donating online or using card instead, or if you cannot then please use the buckets provided.
We are holding a series of online workshops, some streaming live and some where tutors are available to answer any questions that you might have about projects that you are currently working on.
You can find our online workshops on our Facebook page – please like the page to get updates when we’re going live.
We have set up a creative helpline for anybody who needs support with technical arrangements for accessing our online services. For example:
- if you would like to access our online workshops on Facebook but need help setting up an account
- if you need help booking a drop-in session
- if you have booked one of our online courses and need help setting up to access the course via Zoom.
