Look at these sketches made by Van Gogh, and see if you can follow some of the methods shown in his work.
Notice how the foreground has more detail and things become less defined in the distance. This is one way to achieve a sense of perspective or distance in a drawing.
Also note the huge variety of mark making: there are dots, dashes, long and short marks, lines with more weight than others (ie. darker versus lighter lines).
This type of work can also be quite playful, it’s important to be able to enjoy the process of drawing or painting.
If you are feeling adventurous you could use some ink and a stick instead of a pencil, or use a ballpoint pen where erasing is not an option.
