Silk painting is a beautiful form of fine art based on batik techniques. It uses gutta, a liquid resistance, to create the line work which is then filled in with very pigmented paint. The smoothness of the fabric means the paint is easy to blend and the results are an eye-catching mix of metallic lines and bold colours. This technique also has a likeness to glass painting or illustration as it heavily relies on the line work. Currently in Yorkshire it is quite rare and to our knowledge there are no other classes available.
Silk painting is ideal for those who enjoy illustration, crafts or watercolour painting as it is a mixture of all three mediums.
Learn the beautiful technique of silk painting using bright colours and bold metallic
outlines. You will start by using a pre-drawn design to learn about the material properties
then create your own painting from scratch!
The course is open to anyone over the age of 12, whether they have experience in art or not.
