Learn the basics of slab building, handle making and glazing while creating your own
personalised ceramic mug. No previous pottery experience is needed!
Join us for a two-session pottery course where you’ll learn how to make your own
slab-built mug or cup from start to finish.
The course takes place over two Sunday
afternoons, so please make sure you are able to attend both sessions.
Session 1 – Make your mug
Learn the basics of handbuilding with clay as you design and make your own mug or cup.
Choose from a selection of templates or create your own shape.
You can personalise your mug using a variety of pottery tools, stamps and textures to
create an individual surface design, or keep it smooth and simple. You’ll also learn how to
make and attach a handle to complete your mug.
Session 2 – Decorate & Glaze
Once your mug has been fired, return for the second session to add colour or your own
decorative design using underglaze paints.
You’ll then apply a clear gloss glaze, which is food-safe, before your mug is fired for the final
time.
Your finished mug will be ready to collect 2–3 weeks after the second session.
Please note: This is a hands-on course, so please wear clothing and footwear suitable for
working with clay. Aprons and basic ceramic tools are available to use in the pottery.
