In this course you will learn about weaving using traditional and non-traditional materials to achieve two- and three-dimensional effects.
This Sunday weaving course is run by Graham Preston, an experienced practising textile educator and independent freelance designer.
The emphasis is on creative fun learning in which you will be encouraged to experiment with traditional and non-traditional materials that you bring yourself, such as recycling, clothing or carrier bags. More information and guidance will be given at the start of the course.
Each student will have access to a weaving frame and warp yarn. You will learn and experiment with techniques to achieve two- and three-dimensional effects.
The teaching will be structured around core skills which students can then build on during and after course. The course will also involve basic learning of different material types and various usage and effects that can be achieved.
The Birklands Room is well equipped with materials, tools and equipment and you do not need to bring any with you. We do recommend bringing and using a small notebook to keep a record of your work and ideas. You are welcome to bring your own equipment but you will not be able to keep it at Hive.
You will be expected to follow Health and Safety guidance whenever you use the Birklands Room.
Please view our current COVID-19 restrictions before booking / visiting.
