The course is ideal for anyone who wants to start woodworking but doesn’t know where to begin or is frustrated because they can’t make things as well as they would like.

You will learn the core skills required to produce woodwork projects using hand tools. After this course you will be able to move on to more advanced work using hand tools, power tools or machine processes.

You will learn:

  • how to select materials
  • how to measure and mark correctly
  • how to cut wood neatly and accurately
  • how to join wood using traditional techniques
  • how to choose and look after hand tools
  • how to use hand tools safely.

This course is aimed at those with little or no previous knowledge: no experience is required and all materials and equipment are supplied.

Woodwork studio

The studio is well equipped with materials, tools and equipment and you do not need to bring any with you. We do recommend bringing and using a small notebook to keep a record of your work and ideas. You are welcome to bring your own tools but you will not be able to keep them at Hive.

You will be expected to follow Health and Safety guidance whenever you use Hive’s Woodwork studio.
