We have recently been asked about removing an ink stain from a piece of furniture. Here are a couple of methods to try.
One is to apply alcohol, either isopropyl or methylated spirits. The other is a solution of bicarbonate of soda. The effectiveness depends on the type of ink, you’ll just have to see what happens.
In either case, have a small quantity of the liquid in a suitable container. Try applying the liquid to a discrete area of the stained surface to check that it does not mark or discolour.
Then apply the liquid to the stained area with a cotton bud, working inwards from the edge to the middle so you don’t spread the stain. If the cotton bud becomes saturated with ink then start a fresh one.
Once you’ve removed as much ink as you can, dab the area dry with a paper towel or clean cotton rag. You may not be able to completely remove the stain if it’s soaked into the wood.
