Hive HiveConnecting Creativity for over 30 years

1) "I want to go on a course and it is fully booked is there anything I can do?"

You can add yourself to the waiting list online or we can do it for you.

2) "I have become a member and the course I want to do is fully booked. Can I get a refund?"

If you are not using any of Hive's other services, yes, we can refund your membership, just let us know.

3) "Do I need to bring anything with me to class?"

Not unless the tutor contacts you before class or there are materials that you particularly want to use. All materials are provided and a small fee will be collected by the tutor in class. We advise that you wear older clothes for most classes or bring an apron. For classes in woodworks or stained glass, please, wear sturdy shoes (not sandals).

4) "Do courses fill up quickly? If I want to do all 3 terms of one course, do I have to book them all at once?"

It depends on the course.

You can book a course at any time from enrolment day onwards. Hive operates one enrolment day per year (usually in August).  If you wish to book online you need to remember your password as this will allow you to log on and book, although you can click on a link if you have forgotten your password and a new one will be emailed to you.

5) "Is there a limit to the number of courses you can book on?"

Due to funding we have a limited number of reduced fee spaces on each course. To make this as fair as possible each person qualifying for reduced fee spaces is limited to one per term.

6) "Can I get a refund if I am unable to attend the course?"

Refunds will be given if we receive notice two weeks before the course start date. Without notice Hive will refund course fees in exceptional circumstances at our discretion.

7) "Is there parking available at Hive?"

Yes, we have a free car park at the back of the building which we share with the Kirkgate Centre. If you are unable to find a space, there is a pay and display and on-street parking adjacent to the building.

8) "How do I remember all the courses I have booked on and when they start?"

When booking your course you should receive a receipt. Please keep this as your proof of booking, it will also show the course start date. We will also email a reminder two weeks before the course starts.

9) "I want to book myself and my partner onto one course using my membership details. Can I do this?"

Each person booking onto a course has to be a member. If you are booking online you must also have separate email addresses to enable the system to recognise you as separate members.

10) "How do I qualify for a reduced fee place?"

Courses are reduced fee for those currently claiming the following benefits:

Job Seekers Allowance, Employment & Support allowance in both support group and work-related activity group, Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Working Tax Credit, Pension Guarantee Credit only. Proof of receipt of benefit must be brought to the first session of your course.

11) "Can I pay by cash or cheque?"

We do take cash or cheque payments for courses or for membership.  You'll need to come to Hive to make your payment. People often find it easier to become a member or book a course using a credit or debit card online.

12) "How do you select your tutors?"

When we select tutors for our courses, we make sure that not only are they qualified to teach and experts in their subject, but that they are also passionate about their work.  We want you to go away feeling as excited about what you've learnt or produced as they are!

13) "How big are the classes?"

We like to keep class sizes small to give students personal attention from the tutor. Usually there will be between 10 - 13 a class. Some ad hoc classes can be even smaller.

 14) "I can't make the date of a course but I'd really like to attend. Will you run it again?"

Some courses that we run only happen once or twice through the year, but many courses run three times a year. Please let us know if you are interested as sometimes we add a session to the agreed schedule part-way through the year (if we have lots of interest in that course and/or a large number of people on the online waiting list.)
