Independent Drop-In information

As a Hive member you are able to access our facilities and equipment outside of classroom times. The main areas for access are Woodwork, Pottery and general Arts and Crafts. Before using the Independent Drop-In service it is advised to arrange an appointment to be shown round the building by a member of staff or volunteer. You will also need to undertake a general induction which covers health and safety, general housekeeping and our aims as an organisation.

Woodwork: to access the woodwork room on a Independent Drop-In basis you will need to book onto a separate woodwork induction. You will be shown how to use all the equipment safely. These are usually held monthly, see the free courses section of website for details or contact us.

Pottery: the pottery Independent Drop-In is for people who have attended a class or have previous experience of the subject. You will also need to book onto a pottery induction, please contact us for information. We have a weigh and pay scheme for pottery which means you only pay for what you use and this covers the cost of firing and glazing.

Arts & Crafts: this usually takes place in either our Birklands Room or in the café area. The type of activities have included sewing, painting and drawing, stained glass, knitting, crochet, silk painting to name but a few. You can access equipment and materials but please let a member of staff/receptionist know what you are going to use, materials will be charged on a donations basis.

We have a number of Supported Drop-In opportunities for individuals to do specific activities with the company and support of other people. These are:

Talking Textiles - Mondays 1 - 2.45 (currently full) and 3 - 4.45. These sessions are part of our Heritage Lottery funded Worn Stories Project and are based around creative textile recycling activities. These are relaxed sessions in a supportive environment. For more information and information about places please contact [email protected]

Drop-In and Draw  Thursdays 1-3pm. This session allows you to engage in drawing and painting in the company of other like-minded people. You can share skills and learn new things through the company of others.

You will need to be a member to access the Independent Drop-In and Supported Drop-In Services and undertake inductions in the specific areas. Please contact us for further information.
